"I live somewhere cold"

I live somewhere cold, where it snows a LOT. I am a true desert rat and that sentence has been hard for me to say out loud for the past 3 months. Almost like the first time you have to say "this is my ...husband" or "hi, i'm Mrs.....?" And up until a few days ago I really was doing just fine being in denial about the whole move to a cold place, but this weekend made me realize the truth. I'm just surprised that I had to come back from Canada to AZ to get snow dumped on me.  Although I was very sad that I didn't take the photos after we had gotten the full 24 inches, these are some of the photos that I snapped during my reality check this past weekend.

This is my hubs shoveling snow in our driveway the 1st time, early in the morning actually. We literally got in a fight about him wearing a hat and we compromised on the long sleeve shirt instead of a short sleeved one. I was seriously starting to doubt his intelligence.

And this is the 2nd time 15 mins after the 1st time.

Church was cancelled(did you know that was possible??) so we went out in search of people to serve. Well...Kallam did, I sat hibernating in the jeep while he helped COUNTLESS families get un-stuck on random roads.

Then he chose this road to teach me how to drive in the snow. I said..."What road?"

I made this one extra big so ya'll could really appreciate what you were seeing. This is actually Kallam on his 6th and final time of shoveling our driveway that day at 9pm at night, in his church clothes that he didn't go to church in. This totally sums up everything that Kallam loves in one picture....wearing church clothes, shoveling snow, and being cold=crazy.
This was only after 15 or so inches, I couldn't even see it after the second day of straight snowing. Joy.

OH CANADA!

This will be my very first blog post ever on a family blog! Some people say it will change my life, some say i'll quickly become addicted. I personally hope that both happens, although those kind of people are probably the kind that did well with myspace and personalizing their pages and all that junk. I personally did not do well with that and have already had multiple people attempt to help me make this blog worth looking at. A shout out to Randi for successfully getting the rainbow off the background that I somehow put on.  Why couldn't something cool have gotten stuck on there? I have been waiting patiently for a few weeks to be able to add something on here exciting, so here it is :)

Kallam and I just got back from a trip to see his familia up in the state of Washington. While we were there we took a trip to Canada! Some pictures look like we're having fun and some of them look like I didn't....both definitely happened. You'll see.

We started off the trip by missing the only ferry to canada that day due to people that wont be named :) So we stayed at a place called Discovery Harbor to wait for the next ferry in the morning.

This picture is still technically in Washington but Kallam caught a pic of the bald eagle outside our hotel window.

FINALLY got on the ferry the next morning called the Coho. I have been on a ferry before without any issues, so I was not prepared for the adventure we were about to have.
This was me, happy, and just setting sail. I personally thanked my hair later for doing this during the picture. It was CRAZY windy.
"Look, Jack! I'm flying! I'm flying!"

And....this was me 20 mins later. They finally gave me a LARGE bag after I filled up the first 3. The ride lasted an agonizing 90 mins! And luckily I had to look forward to taking the same ferry back the next day.
One of the first things we did was go to a castle! It was actually part of a university, and we had to pretend we were students(luckily we are the right age) in order to walk around inside. It had these amazing chandeliers and ballrooms everywhere. I'm still trying to convince Kallam that I need one of these....a castle that is.

Next was China Town. It is actually the 2nd oldest China Town, right after San Fransisco. We came home with a nice pack of chop sticks to practice with for our trip to China....someday.

Every park and garden and campus that we went to had these AMAZING peacocks just walking around everywhere. Someday maybe i'll live in a place where I can go to college in a real castle and a peacock will walk me to class.

We stopped by the parliament building.

We finally decided to spurge on a really famous set of gardens while we were there. You could walk around these gardens all day if you had the time. Sadly, I had that ferry to catch again.

World.....meet poutine. Poutine, meet the world. This is our cousin Canada's comfort food, so we had to give it a go. It consists of fries, cheese curds and a special gravy. People RAVE about this stuff like its crack. It was good for like 2 mins until it cooled down to the point where we could feel more of the textures. The fried were soggier, the cheese was squeakier, and then it was just weird. But the burgers...excellent. They use almost like a bagel that is toasted and it keeps it all together much better than our wimpy bread.

All in all, it was a trip we aren't likely to forget. I hope to not be that sea sick and car sick for a while.
